A very special artist series collaboration
Now is your chance to have one-of-a-kind artwork under your feet. After the Wagner team finalizes your ski design, you can choose a wood veneer topsheet and work with Ouray, Colorado-based artist Cie Hoover to hand-engrave the art of your dreams.
Each wood veneer topsheet will lend itself to different artistic approaches, so once you choose the veneer, you’ll work directly with Hoover on the design. Hoover offers three different categories to suit your artistic style: abstract, figurative, and landscape. When finished, each pair of skis will be a unique and skiable piece of art.
The process
How it works
After working with the Wagner team to dial in the materials, shape, and profile of your skis, you’ll need to choose your wood veneer topsheet. Each veneer topsheet will lend itself to different artistic approaches, so once you have a veneer in mind, you’ll be connected via phone or email with Hoover for an art consultation. During your meeting with Hoover, you’ll discuss your artistic vision, and he’ll explain how he will bring it to life.
Considerations
- Simple design concepts are the best starting points.
- Check out Hoover's Instagram page for inspiration.
- Hoover will stay true to your vision, but he appreciates a modest level of artistic freedom to incorporate his unique style into your skis.
The Artwork
- Hoover both carves and burns directly into the wood veneers to create texture and images. It does not affect the integrity of the ski.
- Once Hoover completes the artwork, we will apply a final UV-resistant topcoat to help preserve and protect your ski art.
One Last Thing
Keep in mind you are hiring an artist to create truly unique topsheets. This process will take some time. If you have less than six weeks to work through the process, please consider an alternate option for your graphics.
About the Artist

“I am both honored and excited that you are considering custom handmade art for your new set of Wagner Custom Skis. It is my hope that this offering makes you even more excited to get on them on the slopes. And when it comes time to retire your skis, I hope you’ll give them a second life by hanging them as a custom piece of art.”
